McKenzie Method

Carefully assessed and tailored to suit your needs

This method of physiotherapy is known for its excellent results in the treatment of back and neck pain with, or without, radiation of pain into the legs or arms. The method consists of movements and postures to relief pain and restores function quickly.

McKenzie method is currently the world's most researched and best documented treatment for mechanical back and neck disorders, and is used by practitioners and patients worldwide.

McKenzie method is beneficial for

  • Sciatica
  • Lumbago
  • Disc problems
  • Difficulty bending due to stiffness or pain
  • Pain that starts in the back or neck and seems to spread to the buttocks or shoulders
  • Intermittent pins and needles or numbness in the feet or hands

How does it work?

McKenzie Method takes advantage of your own movements to abolish the pain and restore function. Your first session begins with a detailed movement assessment. Based on your responses the therapist is able to design a series of individualized exercises.

Episodes of pain

Some complaints will show the so-called centralization phenomenon. This means that the pain of the leg or arm reduces under the influence of posture or movement to the center of the spine. This phenomenon is unique for the McKenzie method.

Centralizaton process

In addition, postures and movements of daily activities will be corrected. The emphasis is on active patient involvement. This can minimize the number of visits to the clinic. The therapist may supplement the treatment with manual mobilization techniques.
