Acupuncture treatment compliments physiotherapy and reduces recovery time

Acupuncture is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been practiced for over 3000 years. Acupuncture is based on the principle of ‘Qi’, which is the vital energy in the body that flows through channels or meridians. This flow of Qi can become stagnated or slowed down, which results in pain, inflammation, or weakness. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture aims to unblock the meridians and restore health.

Acupuncture Treatments

During the treatment fine needles are inserted into the skin. The needles are sterile and for single use only.  Depending on the type of acupuncture they may only be in for a few seconds or left in place for 10–30 minutes.

Acupuncture is a fast and effective way of relieving pain and muscular spasm. At Physiotherapy San Bartolomé we tailor our acupuncture towards musculoskeletal problems as an integrated part of the treatment plan.

Acupuncture is beneficial for:

  • Back pain and Neck pain
  • Whiplash
  • Tendinitis
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Sprains and strains
  • Sports injuries

Acupuncture within physiotherapy is based on sound evidence and research. Research has shown that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals (endorphins, serotonin, etc.). The combination of acupuncture and physiotherapy has been shown to reduce recovery times.
